As we travel through life we encounter many people. Some are fleeting acquaintances which we soon forget while some become good friends, and, on the rarest of occasions, if you're lucky, you meet someone who touches you so deeply that they become like family. Well, Angel, Nilsa, and myself consider ourselves so very lucky on this topic and it was with heavy hearts when we learned of the death of our family member, William McLoughlin.
Bill and his wife Linda came into our lives before there even was an "us." Angel met the McLoughlins first while teaching at a studio in central Ohio in 2009 and Cree met them not long after when she was signed to the same studio. Their warm, happy go lucky, funny personalities where hard to miss on the dance floor and a friendship began to form between the 4. Over the next 10 years, friends turned into family through many dance lessons and trips, fishing cabins, house get togethers, weddings, and competitions. Bill and Linda even gave Nilsa her first ever Christmas present, and still to this day, she has "Frank" the dachshund beanie baby.
I could go on and on about Bill's unwavering support for Rhythm & Grace, about what a great student he was, about what a great dancer he was but if you met him, you already knew these things. Instead, I will leave you with some of my favorite pictures of Bill. If you wish to read his obit, here is the link : McLoughlin. With the permission of his wife Linda, Angel and Cree are pulling funds together for a youth ballroom scholarship in his honor, The McLoughlin Youth Scholarship, which Linda will present at a competition in 2021. Bill touched so many people in the ballroom world and we couldn't think of a better way to honor such an amazing man.
And as a final picture, I will leave you with my favorite. Perhaps because I snapped it, or perhaps, because it shows what a bright light Bill really was in our lives.
